Course Overview:

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support

Vocational Work Placement


As part of this course, students will be required to undertake a practical placement in an Aged care home/centre for a minimum of 120 hours. During this placement, learners will be involved in all aspects of Aged care home and will work under the supervision of a qualified employee.  We will assist the learner in finding a suitable Aged care home for work placement, in case the student is not able to find one himself/herself.


In cases where the student finds their work placement, they need to take approval from HTCA before starting work placement there. During the practical placement, the learner will be assessed in the practical skills related to the Aged Care and Community service. The work placement will be unpaid. The trainer/assessor will visit the care home/s regularly (a minimum of two times) during the student work placement to assess his/her performance/progress and will record the progress in assessor observation book.


This observation book is a part of the student work placement logbook that the student needs to maintain and get signed by the supervisor as evidence of knowledge. This work placement logbook needs to record the student’s worked hours.

HTCA may ask the student to extend their work placement duration if they are not competent in their performance in 120 hours

Course Fee


The total course fee is 1850 AUD, The enrolment fee 250 AUD will be paid prior to enrolment which is non-refundable if enrolment process completed or learning started (included online learning). The pending 1600 AUD can be paid in the instalments with flexible payment plans. The student must sign direct debit if choosing payment in instalments. Duration and Amount of Training


The AQF volume of learning guidelines for Certificate III recommends 1 – 2 years / 1200-2400 hours.  But we will be deliver this course in1245 hours:

Fulltime Learners: a total of 16 weeks of Classroom-based study will deliver in 16 face to face sessions.  The training plan will provide you with the exact dates and duration of the sessions. The first 8 sessions will focus on learning which is optional to watch from home with the help of zoom/go to meeting as distance learning. The second 8 session require to come in the simulation lab to practice and the first stage of assessment,  prior to practice and assessment on vocational work placement.

Part time is designed for the learns want spend more time to learn. The total of 47 weeks of Classroom-based study will deliver in 16 face to face sessions.  The training plan will provide you with the exact dates and duration of the sessions. The first 8 sessions will focus on learning which is optional to watch from home with the help of zoom/go to meeting as distance learning. The second 8 session require to come in the simulation lab to practice and the first stage of assessment,  prior to practice and assessment on vocational work placement.

Entry Requirements


The entry requirement for this program is that:

  • Students must over 18 years of age.
  • Students should own or have ready access to a computer and a willingness to learn.
  • Reading and writing – a learner will be able to read, comprehend and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts.
  • Oral communication – a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts.
  • Numeracy and mathematics – a learner will be able to recognise and use a variety of conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics or
  • Student holding equal or higher Australian Qualification or
  • A preliminary Language, Literacy and Numeracy test will be conducted at Hope Training College of Australia to assess the skill level of applicant at the time of admission. Students who fulfil the minimum standards are given admission at Hope Training College of Australia , others will be given chance to improve and re appear again for the Language, Literacy and Numeracy test.
  • Due to the physical requirements of this course, the student must be physically fit.
  • A government issued nation photo ID e.g. Passport, DL etc.
  • The student should not hold international student visa
  • Commitment to completing the mandatory 120 hours practical placement (unpaid)
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Completing any vocational education course in Australia, it is a requirement for the student to obtain and supply a USI. This is obtainable from usi.gov.au if a USI is not supplied and verified with usi.gov.au a certificate cannot be issued to the student.
  • Ability to obtain a Clear National Police Check at the students cost

There are three scenarios’ a student need to be aware of in regards to the police check:

  • Police check showing a serious conviction of murder, sexual assault or a conviction and a sentence to imprisonment for any other form of assault will not allow entry in our Certificate III in Individual Support.
  • A police check showing something other than above will mean the student will have to find your own placement as our facilities will only accept students with a clear police check.
  • A clear police check will ensure we find you placement at one of our facilities

NOTE: This course is not designed for the main applicant of International student visa (sub-class 500) holders. Our student support team can help you to find right training providers and explain about the ESOS act.


Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Recognition of Prior Learning is a process where a person with workexperience or previous informal learning, can apply to have their skills and knowledge assessed, with the aim ofgetting a formal qualification.

RPL is the acknowledgement of skills and knowledge obtained through:

  • Formal Training: previous courses run by training providers or in-house training
  • Work experience: on the job experience, including informal training.
  • Life experience: community group involvement, family activities, sports, hobbies, leisureactivities, unpaid work, organising events, and/or travel.

Applications for RPL will be assessed on an individual basis. Each applicant will need to provide the necessary evidence documentation to demonstrate their competency in accordance with the competency requirement of the relevant qualification for which they are applying for RPL. Documentation of prior learning is the most common form of evidence however there are also other forms of evidence including: third party observations, self-assessment reviews, verbal questioning, phone interviews and real work samples such as log books, lesson plans, meeting minutes etc. It is up to the student to compile the evidence, in consultation with a trainer once they have enrolled. Evidence documents will be assessed against the rules of evidence namely:

  1. Validity
  2. Authenticity
  3. Currency
  4. Sufficiency

Credit Transfer: if learner have previously completed an accredited course withunits that are identified as equivalent to the units in the course you are interested in you may be able to apply forCredit Transfer

Learning Resources


Learning Guides: Hope Training College of Australia will provide learning guides at the free of cost as a digital copy into our e-learning portal. We may arrange hard copy as well with additional cost, and please discuss at the time of enrolment with our enrolment manager.

Digital Media:  The learner will arrange their personal computer or laptop for the study. Hope Training College of Australia may able to lease required devices at a reasonable cost. Please discuss your options before enrolling.

Practical Lab: Our simulated lab can provide you with good hands on the equipment you will use during the work placement and regular work. You can choose any closest campus or simulated lab from your home to practice and assessment. The list of learning tools can be provided on special request at the time of enrolment or prior to admission.

Other resources, e.g. pen, tea, coffee etc. can be discussed or provided by Hope Training College of Australia when you are coming for face to face sessions on our campus.

Assessment Methods


Knowledge Assessment: Only one booklet will help us to assessment your knowledge which you will receive through your online learning journey. Also, your online learning activities are recording under your profile as an evidence of your learning journey. The assessment booklet designed with short, long questions, Case studies to assess your understanding toward the course and all subjects/units.

Skill Assessment: The course is skill-based training; Hope training college of Australia will assess learner’s skill in Simulation Lab and during their work placements.  Our assessors will record learner’s outcome in related documents for the final result.
