Course Overview:

Hope Training College of Australia understands the level of risk involved in medication administration in the aged care and disability sector. Our approach is to deliver the best training to our students who want to work in the same industry. We divided the learner group into two. The first group reaches out to us to learn or achieve the skill the first time, and the second group consists of people already holding a skill and certification and want to refresh their existing skill. 

Learner Group 1 (First Timer)

What you will learn

  • Understand the job scope and legal limitations.
  • Understanding the line of authorities before preparing and administrating medication
  • Identification of different types of equipment used for medication administration
  • Understand the infection prevention and control process.
  • Understand the personal-centred approach involved in the aged care and disability industry.
  • Understand the supervision requirement for different types of medication during and after administration.
  • An approach technique to the person receiving assistance for the medication administered.
  • Recognise circumstances in which medication administration should not proceed and seek advice from a supervisor or health professional.
  • Before assisting clients with their medication, check for the presence of any client physical or behavioural changes and report to a supervisor or health professional.
  • Prompt the client to take medication at the correct time.
  • Prepare medications and support clients with the administration of medication/drugs.
  • You will learn about the different types of “Right” factors.
  • Different types of documents and events with documentation are required.  
  • Post-administration of the medication observation process.
  • Verbal and non-verbal reporting.
  • Handle medication contingencies.
  • Understand different modes of administration.
  • Medication receiver detail confirming resources and process.
  • Medication calucation techniques.
  • After the use of equipment, the cleaning process.
  • Understand relevant legislation/act.

Delivery Method

  • Online Learning and Assessment (Self-Paced)
  • Simulated Lab/In Person Classroom (4 hours)
  • In-hand experience in any aged care home (8 hours)

  • 12 Hours + Online Learning and assessment

Entry Requirement

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • One of the certificates is listed below:
    • Certificate III in Aged Care
    • Certificate III in Disability Care
    • Certificate III in Individual Support.
  • A national ID with a photo on it, such as a passport, driving Licence, or Identification/age proof card issued by the Australian government, is required.
